In my typography class, we took on a unique project: crafting a zine encapsulating a 50-word story. My narrative centered on Women in Korean history, often overlooked in conventional accounts. I aimed to tell gender bias prevalent in historical narratives, where women's contributions are sidelined.
My approach involved incorporating light symbolism to illuminate their significance. Using a 3D printer, I crafted a supportive base, embedding LED strips for a radiant effect. The acrylic surface was meticulously engraved to enhance the luminosity. To encourage audience engagement, I bought an actual Korean history textbook and cut away layers until the book revealed the women's stories. Putting the zine in the book, I indicated that their narratives were buried within the pages.
This project enlightened me about the transformative potential of interactive mediums in graphic design.
